Neopets: The Cult
Slashdot reviews the Neopet craze and reports: “Wired is running an article examining the ups and downs of the Neopet Addiction. The overly cute online ‘game’ mostly consists of teaching kids to look at ads, but somehow has developed a large following online. From the article: “A generation agrees. Neopets has a staggering 25 million members worldwide. It has been translated into 10 languages and gets more than 2.2 billion pageviews per month. These dedicated Neopians spend an average of 6 hours and 15 minutes per month on the site. That makes Neopets the second-stickiest site on the Internet – ahead of Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, and eBay, according to Media Metrix. What’s more, its demographics are the stuff of marketers’ dreams: Four out of five Neopians are under age 18, and two out of five are under 13.” Relatedly, Kotaku has a quick blurb about the Scientology backdrop against which this cuteness is projected.”

The neopet’s craze is understandable. I’m one of those people who get on the site every day and stay on for a few hours. It’s grown so big that there are actualy mini wars going on between the various guilds that the user have created.

I love neopets. I’ve been on it four over four years now, and it’s a lot of fun. When I was younger, I used to like the games and the neopet part, but now the guild’s are my thing.
Sure, I spend a few hours on neopets a day, running my guild, but that’s just the kind of guild I have. There have been plenty of other guilds that don’t require that amount of time. For me, guilding allows me to get my books out into the public and hear some feedback. It also allows me to meet people from all over the world. ^.^
I love neopets!
I go on it whenever possible!
I’m 14 and have been playing scince I was a very little girl
I was very upset when the people who never even play neopets tried to ban it because it had games that are classed as gambling. They are not gambling games they are Luck and Chance. You pay to play and sometimes you win back your neopoints (The neopet currency) sometimes you lose it. It’s a risk you take with it.
Neopets Teaches younger kids about animal crulety and looking after pets!
All in all, It’s a great site and people who don’t like it should just shut there traps!
I love Neopets! I have been going to Neopets for more than 6 years now (I started back when I was 15) it is really addictive. ^_^
i gave up neopets for a while then when i came back it seemed alot more fun. sometimes it does get annoying if you stay on it for too long.
