@ Vic...

you are very very very wrong and contradictory. Brew is the language used and supported buy some MOTORAZR's to give the hardware of the phone instructions (FIRMWARE) and execute them...not to play games... the V3c uses the Java applet and language to play and write video games...

If you have a Verizon V3c or V3m, load the Telus Firmware by flashing it. Telus V3c use JAVA, not BREW.

To answer all:

The capabilities of the V3 series phones depends on the wireless carrier the phone was intended for. Verizon, Alltel, and US Cellular V3s (all variations) natively use Brew. This means downloading from the carrier and paying. AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile V3s use Java for games natively. This means that apps can be downloaded from the web and run as long as you find a compatible build. I do not know about V3 Razr phones for other carriers, but these are the major ones in the US.

Technically, anyone can hack their phones, given the time and knowledge. This would void any warranties (definitely) and may disable the phones ability to work on the out-of-the-box carrier (more than likely).

I have worked in the mobile game business for a while, and this is pretty much what it is. Hope this helps settle the debate.

I have a V3M and have hacked the crap out of it. But from what I have read at VARIOUS websites on the net, you CAN NOT get JAVA based games to work on a V3M in the US. They only use BREW games. And by BREW, it means that you PURCHASE the game and it works ONLY for the phone that you purchased it with. It's much like the eeprom file on an Xbox. Each Xbox has it's own unique eeprom that only works with it's assigned hard drive and motherboard. BREW for the V3M is the same concept. So for those of you looking to get FREE games on your V3M... sorry to bust your bubble. It's just NOT possible.

Actually, BREW is just a software layer that runs on the cell-phone. Games may be written in a variety of computer languages (like C, C++, or Java) to run on BREW. So, in a way you can run Java games, it's just that they need to be written to run with BREW.
