Age of Empires IV and V?
Just as fans seem to be busy playing Ensemble Studio’s Age of Empires III, so to do the developers. The artwork found in the game’s Collector’s edition by fans at AOE III Heaven indicate that the company has already worked on, or are planning to work on, the two next sequels!
The issue isn’t the artwork, depicting a 20th-century soldier and a futuristic conception, isn’t the controversy in itself. The issue is whether or not Ensemble Studios is merely teasing its fans, or truly indicating its plans for sequels. Microsoft Game Studios, who published the Age of Empires series, are not confirming anything at the present. “The art found in the book is purely concept art and is not confirmation of future games to come in the Age of Empires franchise,” said a company representative.

Age Of Empires 4 and 5.
It makes good sence and will make a great collection to the 1, 2, 3.
Age Of Empires 3 set after Medievil times to Civilisation. Age Of Empires 4 set in Modern times. Age of Empires 5 set in the future. Now that realy makes AOE fans jump out of their seats. AOE 4, 5 is Expansion packs but im not sure if they are even going to make expansions but as we speak they are making 4 and 5. I also red a artical about Sid Mires remaking AOE 1, and 2 with the help of esemble studios

These artwork only represent the 5 ages of Age of Empires III. Ensemble Studios is working for Aoe addon and after they will begin a MMORPG. So I think that this rumor is just a hoax.

I expect that many fans were thrilled at the site of even a hint of AOE 4, and 5 but just because we saw a glimps doesn’t mean that there will be 2 more sequals to the AOE trilogy. i’d like to see two more sequals but to all the other critics you really don’t know if the rumors are true so don’t say it’s a hoax!! The only people who really know are the people in charge of game development, and everybody at microsoft studios
I think that aoe 4 and 5 wont be expansions but games like 1,2 and 3.

IV & V cant be expansion packs for III because there is already an expansion pack for III called “The War Chiefs” or somthing… I’ve played all three so far and am eagerly looking foreward to other games from the Age of Empires series.
it only makes sense that the next two games will progress further in the future from the previous games. if you look at the artwork so far it has been correct and there is no reason to believe why the next two will not be made also. and for the guy who said that the 5 things are all in aoe 3 you need brain surgery or sumthin cuz aoe 3never goes past the imperial age.

Going back to what Dar says, i think that they should make AOE4 an African one, with lots of diff. tribes and ****. i just hate the idea of WW1/WW2 for number 4. i mean think about it wouldn’t it just suck?

The problem is that there are already DOZENS of WWI and WWII games! It’s getting very old and boring! The whole point of Age of Empires was to transport you back in time (I know WWI and WWII are back in time, but I’m just saying..) to a different world. Its one of the few games today that still produce a plot that has nothing to do with flying cars and giant guns! I love the whole Kingdom, Ancient Greece or Rome feel, and the Medieval feel! That’s the whole reason I bought the game and the whole obvious reason many others did as well! Stick with the good stuff, not with what’s popular!

So far all the AoE’s have been great. The 2nd and 3rd were awesome! But the problem that I hear alot is a need 4 a bigger population. I agree….even a few 300 sucks, go all the way and make enormous maps with tons of resources with populations going up to 350-800 ppl. Also if the rumors r true about AoE 4 being about WW1 & WW2 that might be fun but i still love the conquering of kingdoms or colonies. The top side to it all is u can only imagine the graphics for future AoE’s (after all the 2nd to the 3rd was a huge change in graphics!).
i remeber aoe2 2 be far better game. they need 2 get a camera like dawn of war where u hit alt key .
I think a bigger porpulation would be good but could make it very unfair for a weaker player who wouldnt stand a chance. I really like the idea of modern day combat that would be really cool but not too excited if theres gonna be a futuristic aoe .
I agree that there needs to be a bigger population, more than 200. But then again i agree it would be unfair for weaker plays when they played a stronger player. heck with it more population. I would say anywhere between 250 and 500 would be a good range. Also I like they little things you get for doing good or at least for playing for awhile. I think in there they should give one that lets you have 25 more population. not the actual people just the room to grow 25 more.

DirectX10 should allow for more units on the field. I too am a history buff that likes to play games. I hope that they do not skip the Civil War when they put out Age IV to rush to the world wars.
I think AoE 3 is the best and that even if they did do WW1 and WW2 machine guns would not be as good as having the people reload. The units would die too fast. And there would no longer be swords and spears. Only guns.

If they do make an AoE 5, it would have to stray far from their norm. Mainly because of the fact that they’ll be making up their own characters, not manipulating old types of characters. Also, if AoE 5 would be cast in the future, they’d have to make it different from Starcraft and such, in order to draw in a bigger, newwer crowd.

I dont think that the pics represent the ages in aoe 3, like that guy said down there. But it would be cool to play an aoe vietnam game, it would give the series a different twist, Theyd have to have different resources and stuff like that, but i would definently buy it if it comes out

I think that AOE 4 (WW1 and WW2) is a graet idea, but AOE 5 should actually be 6 and that the real AOE 5 should deal with today’s period of warfare (i.e Iraq, Gulf war, etc), then only should AOE 6 move on to the future.

I think that this is a great idea, but maybe they should re-release the entire series as a colletors edition with AOE 1 – 6 (see my previous post)

Yeah, I definitely agree on a remake of AOE 1 and 2… I played AOE 1 a while ago just for old time’s sake, and I don’t remember it being so ******… but that era is just so much more interesting to me.
As for the population issue, the problem with increasing population is that for everyone besides the hardest-core gamers, that will create some serious lag in the game. Before I got a new video card, sending an army of like 150 in was choppy at times. Personally, I’d rather have smooth gameplay than more units than I can handle. Luckily, as technology increases, so will our population limits.

I think they should take AOE 1-4 or 5 and put them all into one long game and make it so you have to start out in 1 and work your way up through the years in to 4 or 5. But have all the graphics be the same, up to date i mean. I think that would be the best game ever.

my freind said he found info that aoe 4 was going to be released in late 2007 or early 2008 and aoe 5 in 2009, the trouble is that halo wars (a xbox 360 game only)is set in the hlo eara, the future it may be more populure mind you it is being made by ES.

How can you guys sit there and say if, if the company make 4&5. Why wouldnt they? AoE 1,2,&3 made alot of money. Plus most of us enjoyed all 3 titles. Am I wrong? They are sitting on a gold mine and they know it. AoE rocks!

Oh hell yah i think a few 2 games could turn the AOE around and the art depicts it all everything falls as it was originally set from 400 BC from the first AOE too the second one with time lines as 1300’s too 1600’s and AOE 3 from timelines as 1700’s too the 1800’s(late 1600’s too) if POSSIBLE AOE 4 will fall into the 19th Century and the 5th could fall into the 20,21,22 Century i think it would be great but even a myth can die eventually and is not true but hope is always needed in great games thats my opinion and statement

I think they would probally base AoE IV up to World War I instead of going straight to modern times then probally go up to World War II then do modern times they still have alot of history to covor before modern warfare especailly during the World Wars when weopon technology has a huge change in it

I think you should be able to select more people, see people in boats and have up to 700 pop. I think they should replace cav. with tanks, make more infantry- average soldiers, mach. gun, bazooka, trench mortars, medics etc.
I think they should have loads of planes- realistic with fuel- fighters, straffers, bombers, nuc. bombers, heavy bombers, helicopters, parachuters, transport planes and all sorts.
I think they should have mega long range artiillary, and howitzers and anti-tanks, and for ships- subs, aircraft carriers, battleships, and loads of others.
finally I think they should have loads of civs and have loads of good special units like SAS commandos and Navy seals and nuc. subs.

Hmmm, did everyone not notice the fall release of the Asian Dynasties expansion pack for AoE 3? Japan, China, India? It looks interesting. Should hold people over for the next year or 2 till the possibility of an AoE IV becomes a reality. Also, there’s no chance of a full scale AoE IV before late ‘08 to ‘09 as Microsoft is pumping most if not all of it’s resources into the psudo multi=platform Halo. (READ: BUNGIE.NET & XBOX LIVE)

The “weaker” player would either improve or “die”. Becoming a better player and honing one’s skills is the whole point. Nat’chul selection, baby. Some of us have no time for coddling the weak.
They probably shouldnt have gotten us all jumpy about future releases, because well start anticipating them too much and forget about aoe 3. :/
I, a memeber of a populer clan in Age of Mythology agree that they shall make IV and V as it would bring the ratings up in Esemble studios and ESO. Also, i read an artical on one of the creators of AOE ,Sid Mires, told us about how he made AOE one and two and that he is considering to remake them in todays Microsoft graphics. I, a very loyal fan of ES would like to say that i would love to see two new AOE games come out in the futuer IV and V or mabey even more than two.
Dude, i have always wished that AOE would do something for like WWII. That would be awsome. And for the future thing, like someone else said, it would be nice if they stray from spacecrafts and stuff, mabey as transports but that’s about it.
I can’t imagine modern warfare in AoE, it’ll be too much like Command and Conquer. maybe they can pull it off, but i’ll miss the medieval time period
I agree with all who are saying that there shouldn’t be a futuristic age, WWII is as far as my interest goes. however i’d be happy with more medieval times as well. The concept of AoEIII and AoM i didn’t like as much as the others. To Shadow, what i’d like to see to be taken from C&C is how soldiers can gain experience. Also what would be fun to see is if one could arrest opponents or if armys that get badly beaten would run away etc. That would bring a whole new level and one would have to have great leaders and develop them so that they would prevent a panic among the ranks etc

ok this is how it should go…. forget the aoe 5 future ****..leave that to halo, halo has got that on lock down. Aoe 4 should between 1850-1950 and the population should be more on the scale of 300-aprox 375-400 and the final thing they should do is change this map ****. why the hell is there 4 diff countries on Yucatan or great plains…doesnt make sense. the country u pick should be the map you get and that would also cut out the double games in online play cuz thats pretty pointless. Nothing more i hate than a double russian game. But anyhow, the civ u pick is the map you get and speaking that there will be planes and mass transportation and what not it only makes sense to do it that way. theres no point of flying from 1 side of map to the other bombing people. That will cut out the corny rush ****, you should have to organize a plan attack rather than send 5 troops here 5 troops there and end up wining the game over non skill **** and take it from me ima 1st lie goin on cap in Aoe 3 so i know wats up.

Considering that picture? The concept that is given the Roman numeral IV in the booklet? Yeah, that’s not WW1…it’s more of post-WW2 to Vietnam. Though, no doubt Ensemble would inclue both world wars, in addition to Vietnam….I’m thinking…you’ve got colonization of the new world….making the jump to the beginning of modern warfare pretty large. You’d think they’d need a…transition…But how many major battles are between colonization and modernization huh? I mean…Revolutionary, Napoleonic, Civil…I suppose you could throw some of the late Ottomon warring in there…a few of the early Russian conflicts….but still, a lot of that is seperated by a lot of time. So, who knows. Personally, I don’t see the problem with modern or even futuristic war. If anyone can do it right, it’d be Ensemble. And, think about it, if AoE was to continue…we’d have to get there one of these days, eh? But also….one of the things that made AoE so huge was the fact that it payed attention to historic detail….so, perhaps ES will only make games up to ‘today’s’ time, eh? Though, it’s a bit more difficult to catch heroes in the ‘wars’ of today, heh.

I think that Age of Empires 4is going to be a blast, bot not Age of Empires 5, it is going to be to future like, , and that is not my personal interest. AOE 3 is the best, and I think AOE 4 is going to be even better. I am guessing that AOE 4 will be out in late 2007 or early 2008, but I can’t wait.
They also need to clean up AOE 1 and 2, there graphics are a mess, it would be fun if it had the graphics of AOE 3, but I know that will never happen, they are proboly to foucused on AOE 4 and 5..
Age of Empires belongs in old times, not modern times. Please don’t make a modern Age of Empires, that’s what Company of Heroes is for. Make another Roman Empire one but with really awesome graphics and realistic units and all. Not boats that go on land lol (true fans know what I am talking about)

I think before they release an aoe IV they should remake aoe I and II. Just improve the graphics don’t make them the same format as aoe III. Also they could make a sequel to aom. Like the chinese, celts and romans maybe.
Surely Age of ‘Empires’ 4 and 5 would be quite redundant as the whole concept of ‘Empire’ died off at around 1914? Of course the British Empire still maintained an Empire, but hardly anybody else’s did, so surely the game would be pretty boring?
Also age of empires 1,2 and 3 span through long generations whereas Age of Empires 4 (if it doesn’t turn out to be fake) would just span 60-80 years at most(probably start in the late 1880s with expansion into Asia and China then possibly end after WW2.

I LOVE Age of Empires III, but there’s always the same thing in ANY strategy game: CAN WE BE ABLE TO SELECT AS MANY SOLDIERS AS WE WANT?!
Because in any strategy game, the maximum you can have is, like, 30 – 40 people! Why can’t we be able to have HUGE and PROPER armies to the march. Instead of this pathetic little group! Well, fair enough, it’s enough to defeat the enemy, but it would be cool to select as many as wished though.
Anyway: still looking forward to AoE VI. AND ESPESIALLY AoE V!!
They should definitely increase the population capacity for the Age of Empries franchise. Two-hundred is not nearly enough, especially when some units take up multiple spaces. Everything should be worth 1 population and you should be able to make between 500 and 1000 people.
By the way, try out Nemesis of The Roman Empire, you can have however large or small a population you want and it runs very smoothly. Plus, for people with slower computers, just limit the population to the 200 and under capacity.
All this garbage about how it would make it harder for weaker players to play tougher players is trash. Ever heard of the theory of evolution? In the real world every country doesn’t have the same population. The biggest, toughest countries survive and prosper, the little ones become extintct. It’s natural selection in action, and boy do we need some more action.
I think 4 every home city level up u should get 1 extra pop or 2 or 5. Also and then also we should have national borders or territory.
More maps and civs too and possibly make a gold edition later on

AOE 2 was totally the best, I think that it’d be cool iff they made a pop limit of more’n 200. 200 is never enough.

i hope they do a much better job with age of empires 4 and 5 than with 3. Age 3 really disapointed me compared to 1 and 2. I think they should stick to more basic graphics. Also, that population thing they started with in Age of mythology is the worst s+`´çt. I dont care if your creating a catapault, a somersaluting ninja or a villager, they should all occupy 1 population.
I think that AoE IV should stretch from late colonial era (colonization in Africa and Australia) to WWI. They could have several african civs, which would be cool, maybe a few middle-eastern ones. It would stay inside hitorical bounds, which is what makes AoE so unique in the RTS genre.
Agreed, The whole Age of empires Series is like a history book wrapped up in a kick *** addicting game series, and i wouldn’t have it any other way.
lol, few things are funnier on these pages than people who think the artwork represents the ages within AOE3. anyone who’s actually owned any of the games would notice that the first 3 pictures are exact copies of the cover art of those games. not to mention the fact that AOE3 does NOT go into any of the ages shown except the 3rd image.
looks like there will be no aoe 4 and 5 since ensemble has gone down the crapper but hopefully one of the new companies that they will form will make something similar since the games were kick ***

The first time I played an AOE game was Age of Mythology! I thought, and still think, that that is the best game of the franchise! It definitely is the most unique and much more creative, in my opinion! The Gods and their powers were epic, and I wish they could add on more to that era of game! Loved it! This idea of WWI and WWII looks really bad! The problem is that there are already DOZENS of WWI and WWII games! It’s getting very old and boring! The whole point of Age of Empires was to transport you back in time (I know WWI and WWII are back in time, but I’m just saying..) to a different world. Its one of the few games today that still produce a plot that has nothing to do with flying cars and giant guns! I love the whole Kingdom, Ancient Greece or Rome feel, and the Medieval feel! That’s the whole reason I bought the game and the whole obvious reason many others did as well! Stick with the good stuff, not with what’s popular!
