PS2 Price Drop?

Posted in Hardware, Microsoft, Previews, Xbox 360, Sony, PS2, Rumor, Bargains by ubersoldat on November 24th, 2005. [Del.icio.us]

CNN writes that “Sony could slash the price of the PS2, currently $150, perhaps to $100, making the $400 Xbox 360 seem less attractive. Sony says it has no immediate plans to lower pricing for either the PS2 or the PSP, but after the holidays, who knows?”

Will Sony make the Holiday price cut? If they choose to do so, will it succeed in slowing the Xbox 360’s enormous momentum? The assumption of this article is that gamers will be more willing to forgo $100 for a dated console than plunk down the $400 for a next-gen console. I doubt consumers will be that stingy over the Christmas shopping season.

I too strongly doubt a lower price for the PS2 would have any significant effect on the sale of the Xbox 360 because at this point, the products appeal to two distinct groups of people.

On a completely different note, this is pretty much the awesomest website ever.

Sony has no reason to drop the price right now. While there is a high demand for the 360 there aren’t any units out there to fill that demand thanks to Microsofts mismanagement of their launch. Right now Sony still has no competition so there is absolutely no reason for them to drop the PS2 to $100.00. Sony is and for the forseeable furture will continue to be the market leader.

I don’t think Sony need to drop the price, since there’s no more 360 in any retails store (well, yeah you can find it on ebay), ps2 is only competiting with original xbox. Also, i don’t feel like the 360 shortage is Microsoft’s mismangement, more likely the usual marketing tactics for a new console.

Hahahaha LMAO! Cleveland Oakes. If “mismanagement” leads to selling every Xbox 360 that hits stores then their “mismanagement” should be used everytime they sell a product. hahaha

the ps2 sould be droped to $120 and come with a free game. then xbox would have to lower there price and no ones buys gamecube so gamecube sould just be taken off the market.

Who cares the PS2 was better than the Xbox.

The PS3 is going to be way better than the Xbox 360.

When it comes down to it…the Xbox is still a Microsoft product and it will always be chasing the leaders (ie: Windows is trying to be more and more like Mac OSX).

To hell with Billy and Microshit
